Alibaba Cloud has announced a series of major partnerships to advance the use of generative AI (GenAI) across several industries.
During its Apsara Conference held recently, the company revealed that its foundational AI model, Tongyi, now supports over 300,000 customers (an increase from 90,000 users reported last year) through its Model Studio platform.
One highlight is Alibaba Cloud’s partnership with today’s AI innovation frontrunner and chipmaker Nvidia, which focuses on transforming the automotive industry. Their partnership has led to the development of a large multimodal model (LMM) for smart cars.
This AI-powered solution, which integrates Alibaba’s Qwen models and Nvidia’s Drive platform, aims to enhance in-car experiences by allowing voice assistants to handle complex conversations and make real-time decisions. Drivers, for example, can simply mention that it’s cold, and the system will adjust the temperature automatically.
AI driving innovation
XPENG, a leading electric vehicle maker, is also working with Alibaba Cloud to enhance its smart cockpit. XPENG’s AI assistant, Xiao P, is powered by the Qwen model, enabling it to understand complex commands and improve user interactions without explicit instructions. The company is utilizing AI models to create custom vehicle designs and streamline its research processes.
In the gaming sector, Alibaba Cloud has been a key partner for miHoYo, supporting the launch of its latest game, Zenless Zone Zero. The game, which had millions of pre-beta registrations, benefitted from Alibaba’s robust infrastructure, ensuring smooth gameplay even during peak times.
Beyond automotive and gaming, Alibaba Cloud is also partnering with educational organizations like Unesco-ICHEI. Their joint initiative focuses on digital training programs that teach generative AI and cloud technologies. The goal is to reach 12,000 educators and students by 2025, providing them with the tools to improve the learning experience.
Alibaba Cloud said that these partnerships show the company’s commitment to using AI to drive innovation across diverse sectors, from enhancing mobility and gaming to fostering educational growth.
