Groq, an artificial intelligence (AI) company, has expanded its AI infrastructure to Asia-Pacific through a deployment inside Equinix’s International Business Exchange data center in Sydney, Australia. The partnership brings Groq’s LPU Inference Engine closer to customers in the Philippines and the wider region.
Groq and data center operator Equinix will set up a 4.5MW Groq facility in Sydney. The site is intended to provide high-speed AI inference for enterprises and public sector agencies in the region. Through Equinix Fabric, organizations can connect to GroqCloud with secure, low-latency links for production AI workloads.
“Groq is a pioneer in AI inference, and we’re delighted they’re rapidly scaling their high-performance infrastructure globally through Equinix,” said Cyrus Adaggra, president, Asia-Pacific, Equinix. “Our unique ecosystems and wide global footprint continue to serve as a connectivity gateway to their customers and enable efficient enterprise AI workflows at scale.”
The expansion follows Groq deployments in the United States and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
“Our deployment in Equinix’s Sydney data centre is our first step to bring high-performance, cost-efficient AI inference closer to the region, enabling secure, low-latency access while supporting data sovereignty and privacy,” said Scott Albin, general manager, APAC, Groq. “Together, we’re building the infrastructure to drive AI innovation and growth in Asia-Pacific.”
Groq sees Asia-Pacific (APAC) as a key growth market for the company, with the International Data Corp. (IDC) projecting AI and Generative AI (GenAI) spending in the region to reach $110 billion by 2028.
Groq’s LPU Inference Engine is designed specifically for AI inference and is supported by a custom compiler. Equinix is providing global connectivity through Equinix Fabric, which links businesses to clouds, partners, and digital ecosystems across more than 270 facilities in 37 countries.
The partnership allows organizations to scale AI workloads with predictable performance and cost management. Groq technology is available through GroqCloud, and enterprises can choose cloud-based or on-premises deployment.
