Capability, not college degrees, is becoming the main measure of talent as artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes hiring, according to EY Global Delivery Services (EY GDS) Philippines, which is building a skills-first talent pipeline to prepare students for tech-driven roles.

EY GDS, a worldwide network of support centers said industries are moving away from traditional markers such as diplomas, job titles, and years of experience. Instead, companies now prioritize practical skills like digital fluency, adaptability, and the ability to apply knowledge in real-world situations, especially as AI adoption accelerates across sectors.

To address this shift, EY GDS Philippines is working directly with universities to embed enterprise tools, certifications, and hands-on training into degree programs. The goal is to produce job-ready graduates with skills in AI, data analytics, and programming before they enter the workforce.

A key part of the program is early exposure to platforms such as ServiceNow, which is widely used in IT services, customer operations, and risk management. Through this, students gain experience in automation, digital workflows, and AI governance while understanding how these tools are applied in actual business environments.

To deepen this approach, EY GDS introduced initiatives such as the Academia Program and the Accelerated Learning Program for ServiceNow (ALPS), which allow students to build technical and professional skills up to two years before graduation. These programs are designed to shorten the learning curve and improve employability in high-demand tech roles.

“This immersion bridges the gap between theory and practice, showing how academic concepts apply in real client situations,” said Raymond Go, consulting leader of EY GDS Philippines. ”Students build confidence, improve decision-making, and enter the workforce prepared and effective from day one.”

The company is also expanding cybersecurity training through academic partnerships, including collaborations with Cebu Institute of Technology – University. Programs cover areas such as cyber threat management, security operations, and risk and compliance, helping students gain in-demand cybersecurity skills before graduation.

EY GDS Philippines Assurance leader Karthik Bhaskaran said early exposure also builds soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and professional judgment. Students are trained to develop a “questioning mindset,” which strengthens critical thinking, discipline, and integrity in professional settings.

Aside from technical tools, students use platforms such as Canvas, Financial Statement Tie-Out (FSTO), and Copilot to simulate real-world consulting and assurance work environments. This helps them transition faster into client-facing roles.

“Our program sets a standard for industry-academia collaboration,” said Diana Dionisio, talent attraction and acquisition leader of EY GDS Philippines. “Students gain access to industry platforms and structured development tracks. Many earn certifications and, in some cases, secure job offers before graduation.”

The initiative has already expanded in Cebu, contributing to the region’s development as a hub for ServiceNow and cybersecurity talent.

EY GDS said this approach not only improves hiring outcomes but also builds a sustainable talent pipeline aligned with evolving industry demands. As AI continues to transform work, the company aims to produce professionals who are both technically skilled and adaptable to continuous change.
