Telecommunications company Globe signed a partnership with AC Mobility, an automotive distributor and subsidiary of Ayala Corp., to deploy 20 hybrid electric vehicles for its field sales service fleet by the end of 2025.
Globe plans to shift about 500 company vehicles to hybrid or fully electric units by 2028.
“Globe’s decision to electrify its fleet is not just a purchase, it is a powerful statement of leadership,” said Jaime Alfonso Antonio Zobel de Ayala, CEO of AC Mobility. “This is what action looks like, not waiting for the future, but ushering it in today. At AC Mobility, we are committed to enabling this transition with BYD vehicles, charging networks, and digital platforms that make sustainability practical, scalable, and accessible.”
Globe said this partnership is expected to avoid around 5 million kilograms of carbon emissions over the vehicles’ estimated five-year life and generate at least ₱100 million in fuel savings. The initiative also supports the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act and signals Globe’s wider shift to lower-emission operations.
“Hybrid EVs are not just more efficient to operate and maintain, they also allow us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint,” said Carl Cruz, president of Globe. “This roadmap is a powerful example of how a strong business strategy can go hand in hand with environmental responsibility.”
Globe’s targets include 20 hybrid units in 2025, 200 units in 2026, and 300 units in 2028. The first units will support the company’s B2B Sales and Customer Management teams, with later deployments planned for network operations groups as charging stations expand across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
“Financing plays a key role in accelerating the adoption of electrified vehicles,” said Satoshi Matsuo, president of BPI Tokyo Century Rental Corp. “By making sustainable fleet options accessible and practical, we can help companies like Globe achieve their environmental goals while strengthening operational efficiency.”
The initiative forms part of Globe’s Net Zero Roadmap, introduced in 2021 when Globe became the first publicly listed Philippine company to secure validated science-based targets from the Science Based Targets initiative. Globe has also launched related efforts, including the shift of employee shuttles to EVs with Global Electric Transportation, support for the Evro charging network through 917Ventures, and employee programs that encourage the use of electric or hybrid vehicles.
