Digital bank GoTyme Bank now allows its Visa debit cardholders to use Google Pay for contactless payments, giving customers another option to pay with their phones in stores and online.
Customers can add their GoTyme Bank debit cards to Google Wallet and use their Android phones or Wear OS devices to make payments locally and internationally. The service works wherever Google Pay is accepted.
“This launch underscores our enduring commitment to accelerating financial inclusion and fueling the next chapter of the Philippines’ dynamic digital economy,” said Prep Palacios, country manager, Google Philippines.
Google Pay uses NFC technology that allows users unlock their phones and tap them on a contactless terminal to complete a transaction.
“Our customers want speed and simplicity when they pay,” said Nate Clarke, president and CEO of GoTyme Bank. “With Google Pay now part of the GoTyme Bank experience, everyday payments become more effortless and secure, wherever life takes you.”
GoTyme Bank’s rewards program remains active when customers pay through Google Pay.
Revised points list:
• Earn 1 point for every ₱100 spent at partner merchants
• Earn 1 point for every ₱500 spent at other stores, including overseas purchases
Google Wallet serves as the storage for the digital version of the GoTyme Bank Visa debit card, while Google Pay handles the actual payment process during checkout.
Reasons the bank said the feature matters include:
• Security features such as tokenization, biometric authentication, and dynamic codes
• Convenience since there is no need to carry a physical card
• Rewards that continue to apply even when paying with a phone
To start using the service, customers can open the Google Wallet app, choose Add to Wallet, select Payment card, and enter their GoTyme Bank card details. After verifying through a one-time password, they can begin tapping to pay and earning points.
