Technology company HP Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), recently held an advanced session of its “Frontier Tech Trends” program in Roxas City, Capiz.
The event, supported by the Roxas City local government, focused on helping Filipinos understand how artificial intelligence (AI) can support national development and growth.
Building on earlier sessions that introduced AI fundamentals, this edition focused on practical skills such as prompt engineering, AI-powered learning tools, and real-world applications in cybersecurity and digital transformation. The program aims to expand digital skills development to regions beyond Metro Manila and prepare participants for emerging opportunities in technology-driven industries.
According to a recent study, AI could contribute around $31 billion to the Philippine economy, highlighting its growing role in shaping industries such as IT-BPM (information technology and business process management).
“Technology is only as meaningful as the people it serves,” said Jhino Ilano, director of the ICT Industry Development Bureau (IIDB) of the DICT. “Through programs like Frontier Tech Trends, we’re showing that AI is not here to replace us, but to empower us, to help Filipinos become more creative, more efficient, and more connected to opportunities wherever they are.”
The event featured a session led by Idris Murat Atakli, AI consultant for HP and a global expert in AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. His talk combined technical discussions with a hands-on workshop where participants learned how AI is evolving from simple automation to a tool that aids in decision-making.
Through exercises in prompt engineering, attendees practiced transforming complex regulations and client requirements into actionable insights. Atakli also showed how AI technologies can help detect security threats, ensure compliance, and protect sensitive data, key functions for both government services and outsourcing operations.
The session also covered how AI-based tools can support employee upskilling and increase productivity by automating repetitive work. Participants were encouraged to create their own AI prompts tailored to workplace needs, equipping them with practical skills to improve performance and innovation in their respective fields.
