The National Privacy Commission (NPC) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Aboitiz Data Innovation (ADI), to foster the development and testing of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) within regulated sandbox environments.
The agreement, signed by Privacy Commissioner Atty. John Henry Naga and ADI CEO Dr. David Hardoon, underscores a joint commitment to advancing data privacy while balancing the need for innovation and governance.
“The collaboration between NPC and ADI focuses on knowledge sharing and capacity building to enhance data privacy using PETs,” Naga said. “The insights gained will be pivotal in shaping future regulatory standards and practices concerning these technologies.”
“Proper governance and compliance are essential to fostering innovation,” Hardoon said. “The MOA and sandbox environment will allow industry players to innovate responsibly, benefiting consumers and stakeholders alike.”
Through this partnership, NPC aims to fulfill its mandate of protecting personal data and addressing modern challenges in data privacy. The agreement shows NPC’s commitment to collaborating with the private sector to ensure that advancements in technology do not compromise data protection standards.
This MOA may serve as a foundational step in bridging technological innovation and robust data governance, ensuring that as new technologies emerge, they are accompanied by sound privacy practices.
