PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications Inc. have launched a new storybook, “Ang Paglalakbay ni Tala (The Adventures of Tala),” to advocate for children’s rights and promote internet safety. Created in partnership with the youth-led groups Kids for Kids PH and the Positive Youth Development Network (PYDN), the book addresses online threats such as cyberbullying and unsafe content.

The story follows Tala, a character who journeys into the metaverse and learns about her rights, ways to protect them, and the dangers lurking online. It features interactive activities to help children build cybersecurity awareness and adopt responsible online habits.

“PLDT and Smart believe that child protection, especially in the digital age, begins at home,” Stephanie Orlino, AVP and head of Stakeholder Management at PLDT and Smart, said in media release. “The storybook offers an opportunity for parents and guardians to sit with children and talk about internet safety so they can #BeCyberSmart and protect themselves from threats on the internet and in the physical world.”

Launched during National Children’s Month, the book aligns with efforts by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to combat human trafficking and child abuse. It also supports PLDT and Smart’s #BeCyberSmart campaign, which shares practical cybersecurity information through collaborations with schools, businesses, and local organizations.

Kids for Kids PH and PYDN bring their expertise to this initiative. Kids for Kids PH inspires creativity and safe spaces for children, while PYDN fosters innovative youth programs to promote courage, creativity, and compassion.

“Ang Paglalakbay ni Tala” is available online and reflects PLDT and Smart’s commitment to creating a safe digital environment for children as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
