Smart logs zero dropped calls in Metro Manila drive tests

Smart Voice Calls

Mobile services provider Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) recorded no dropped calls during the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) latest Metro Manila drive tests, which check network performance under real-world conditions.

Smart’s average call drop ratio was zero percent, within the regulator’s requirement of below 2%. The measure tracks calls that disconnect unexpectedly while users are talking.

“Our zero-percent call drop ratio in the latest NTC tests is a positive result for voice-call reliability. We remain committed to working closely with the NTC to assess network performance, address areas for improvement, and deliver a more dependable mobile experience for our customers,” said Debbie Hu, FVP and head of Network Build and Implementation at PLDT and Smart.

The NTC tests also measured a peak mobile broadband speed of 377 Mbps along San Francisco Street in Mandaluyong City. That figure represents the highest speed recorded at that location, rather than an average across the areas tested.

Smart said it would continue working with the regulator to address specific areas of concern and improve network quality.

In a separate assessment, the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) September 2026 Oplan Bantay Signal report gave Smart a “Good” overall network performance rating, with a score of 80.3.

Smart recorded an average download speed of 52.22 Mbps, the fastest among mobile networks covered by that assessment, according to the report cited by the company.

All measured cities posted speeds above 15 Mbps. Smart said this marked its fifth consecutive month with no cities classified as “crisis cities” under the DICT assessment.

The company also cited recognition from global connectivity intelligence leader Ookla for delivering the Best Mobile Video Experience in the Philippines in the first half of 2026. Smart received a Video Score of 72.82, the highest among mobile operators in the country.

The assessments cover different aspects of mobile service: the NTC results measure call reliability and broadband performance during its drive tests, while the DICT report and Ookla recognition provide separate measures of network speed and video experience.
