The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) awarded Dr. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, chair of Ayala Corp., an Honorary Doctorate in Management during the AIM 2024 Graduation Ceremony on July 7, 2024, at The Fifth at Rockwell in Makati City.
A Harvard-educated leader, Dr. Zobel graduated with honors in Economics in 1981 and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1987. Under his leadership, Ayala Corp., one of the Philippines’ most established conglomerates, has expanded globally with diverse interests in sectors such as real estate, banking, telecommunications, energy, healthcare, logistics, industrial technologies, water, infrastructure, education, and technology investments. His strategic direction has significantly influenced the Philippine economy.
“Dr. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala’s unwavering dedication to innovation, corporate governance, and social responsibility serves as an inspiration to current and future business leaders,” said Jikyeong Kang, PhD, president and dean at AIM. “His achievements pave the path towards impactful leadership, the very essence of what AIM strives to instill in our graduates.”
Dr. Zobel was the first Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneer from the Philippines, recognized globally for promoting sustainability and the 17 SDGs in business. Ayala Corp., under his leadership, is has focused on environmental protection, community development, and education initiatives.
Corporate social responsibility
He is a prominent figure in the Philippine business community, serving as chair of the Makati Business Club and holding board positions in international institutions like Temasek Holdings and JP Morgan International Council. He also founded the Ayala Education Foundation, providing scholarships to underprivileged students.

Dr. Zobel’s speech to the graduates focused on the theme of choices and consequences. He highlighted the importance of attention management, investing in relationships, and defining one’s purpose and values. His parting message emphasized purposeful decision-making in their future careers.
The honorary doctorate is a tribute to Dr. Zobel’s exceptional career and his lasting impact on the Asian business landscape. AIM recognizes his achievements in business and his commitment to leading with purpose and transforming lives globally.
