Alibaba Cloud, the cloud unit of Alibaba Group, has been recognized as an Emerging Leader in all four quadrants of the latest Gartner “Innovation Guide for Generative AI” reports, published in November 2025.

The Emerging Market Quadrant is designed to show generative AI vendors in a fast-moving market. According to Gartner, Emerging Leaders “typically possess visibility within the market as well as both strong features and future potential.”

“We believe our recognition as an Emerging Leader across the GenAI stack is a powerful validation of our integrated ‘AI + Cloud’ strategy,” said Jingren Zhou, CTO of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “From the optimized infrastructure that powers AI, to our leading Qwen models, the tools to engineer specialized applications, and the productivity apps that deliver value to end-users, we are committed to providing a holistic ecosystem that empowers businesses to innovate and succeed in the fast-moving era of AI.”

The four quadrants in the Gartner reports are: Generative AI Specialized Cloud Infrastructure, Generative AI Model Providers, Generative AI Engineering, and Generative AI Knowledge Management Apps.

Gartner defines Generative AI Specialized Cloud Infrastructure as offerings that support AI and machine learning activities, including high-performance computing, storage, and networking for training and inference. Alibaba Cloud provides an AI-optimized cloud infrastructure and is the only cloud service provider in Asia Pacific recognized as an Emerging Leader among four global peers.

The Generative AI Model Providers quadrant includes vendors offering access to commercial or open-source foundation models. Alibaba’s Qwen model series, including the latest Qwen3, has been downloaded over 600 million times on platforms like Hugging Face and ModelScope, leading to more than 170,000 derivative models. Its AI development platform, Model Studio, supports over 1 million corporates and individuals to fine-tune, manage, and deploy AI models.

Generative AI Engineering focuses on technologies that support the full model lifecycle. Alibaba Cloud’s Platform for AI (PAI) allows enterprises and developers to manage the AI lifecycle in one platform, from data labeling and model building to training, optimization, and deployment.

The Generative AI Knowledge Management Apps quadrant covers tools that help companies retrieve and contextualize insights from their knowledge bases. Alibaba Cloud’s AI solutions help develop applications using RAG and agentic AI, supporting industries from autonomous driving and healthcare to logistics, consumer electronics, and e-commerce.

Alibaba Cloud was also named an Emerging Leader in all four quadrants in last year’s Gartner report.
