Semiconductor firm AMD is moving more artificial intelligence (AI) work directly onto personal computers, allowing advanced AI models to run locally instead of relying mostly on cloud servers. The shift aims to make systems faster, more responsive, and better at protecting user data.

AMD announced that its Ryzen AI Halo developer platform will open for pre-orders in June 2026, along with the new Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series processors. Both are designed for what AMD calls “agent computers,” or PCs that can understand instructions, plan steps, and complete tasks with less manual input from users.

The introduction of the new processors is an indication of how AI is becoming part of everyday computing, not just something handled in remote data centers.

“AI is no longer confined to the cloud. It is now something developers can build, train, and run locally,” said Jack Huynh, SVP and GM, Computing and Graphics Group. “With the Ryzen AI Halo and Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series, we are delivering the performance, memory, and open AI software stack that developers and enterprises need to bring the next generation of agentic AI systems to life right on their desks.”

AMD’s Ryzen AI Halo is a compact developer system designed for building and testing AI apps directly on a PC, with less dependence on cloud services. It runs on Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processors and supports up to 128GB of unified memory. This allows the system to run AI models with up to 200 billion parameters locally, which usually require large cloud-based systems.

The platform supports widely used AI tools and frameworks such as PyTorch, vLLM, llama.cpp, Ollama, ComfyUI, and LM Studio. It is also optimized for AMD ROCm software, covering tasks like language models, image generation, and AI agent workflows in one system.

Developers can also use it from early testing on Linux and move to Windows deployment without switching machines, making development simpler.

AMD said Ryzen AI Halo powered by Ryzen AI Max+ 395 will be sold exclusively through Micro Center, with pre-orders starting in June 2026. AMD also introduced the Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series processors for business PCs, mobile workstations, and small desktop systems.

Built on AMD’s “Zen 5” architecture, the chips combine RDNA 3.5 graphics and an XDNA 2 neural processing unit (NPU). They support up to 192GB of system memory and 160GB of VRAM, designed to handle demanding AI tasks, real-time graphics, and heavy data processing.

AMD said these processors are made for engineers, developers, and creators who need to run AI tools, graphics, and computing tasks on one machine without relying heavily on external systems.

OEM partners are expected to start releasing systems using Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series chips in 2026, including updated Ryzen AI Halo-based platforms in the third quarter of the year.
