Chipmaker AMD rolled out the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor, introducing dual 3D V-Cache on a desktop CPU and designed it for developers, content creators, and PC gamers who need faster performance.

The processor features 16 cores and 32 threads, with boost speeds of up to 5.6 GHz and a base clock of 4.3 GHz. It comes with a total of 208MB cache, one of the largest on a desktop chip, designed to reduce lag and speed up demanding workloads such as video editing, 3D rendering, and game development.

“I’m excited to introduce the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, the world’s first desktop processor with AMD 3D V-Cache on both chiplets, delivering an incredible 208MB of on-chip memory,” said Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Group, AMD. “This is the next evolution, and with a simple drop-in upgrade on AM5, we’re delivering the absolute best performance for world-class gaming and content creation.”

Built on “Zen 5” architecture using a 4nm process, the chip uses second-generation 3D V-Cache technology placed beneath the processor cores. This design helps manage heat better and sustain higher speeds for longer periods, improving efficiency in heavy workloads.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 also shows performance gains of around 5%-8% in creator tools such as DaVinci Resolve and Blender, as well as in large code builds using Unreal Engine and Chromium.

The chip is designed to handle complex tasks like compiling large codebases, running simulations, and processing large datasets by keeping more data closer to the cores, reducing bottlenecks.

The processor has a thermal design power (TDP) of 200W and is priced at $899. It is available through retailers and pre-built systems, including the Alienware Area-51 Desktop.
