A recent survey by Appdome, a mobile app security solutions provider, highlights the increasing demand for mobile app security among Filipino users. The “4th Annual Philippines Consumer Survey of Mobile App Security” reveals that consumers are more aware of risks related to fraud, privacy, and security, and are pushing mobile brands to prioritize stronger protections.
The survey, conducted in partnership with the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), indicates that Filipino users are particularly concerned about (artificial intelligence) AI-based attacks. These attacks are seen as a rising threat, with experts urging mobile enterprises to adapt quickly.
“AI-based attacks will take mobile app risks to a new level,” Alan Bavosa, VP of Security Products at Appdome, said in a media release.
The data reveal that Filipino consumers have become more vigilant, with 97.5% now demanding total protection in mobile apps. This includes safeguarding account integrity, login credentials, data storage, and protection from malware and fraud. The survey shows that 87.5% of users expect proactive fraud prevention from brands, rather than post-incident reimbursement.
E-wallet usage
Appdome also highlights a shift in consumer behavior, with over 54% of respondents saying they prefer mobile apps over web-based platforms. This is paired with a rise in e-wallet usage, as 61.6% of Filipino consumers now regularly use mobile payment applications or nearly double the global rate.
Another trend to look out for is the growing consumer frustration with perceived developer inaction, as 30% of respondents feel app developers are not sufficiently addressing security concerns. As a result, 76.3% of consumers said they would stop using a mobile app if it failed to provide adequate security measures.
Filipino users are also willing to reward secure brands, with 97.5% stating they would become advocates for apps that prioritize safety, often through social media or app reviews.
