Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16e, a new addition to the iPhone 16 lineup designed to offer strong performance at a lower price. The device features Apple’s A18 chip and the newly developed C1 modem, which enhances cellular connectivity and power efficiency.
Apple designed the iPhone 16e to support Apple Intelligence, its personal AI system that delivers useful insights while prioritizing user privacy. The phone also includes satellite-based features such as Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and Find My, helping users stay connected even when out of range of cellular or Wi-Fi networks.
Camera and video features
The iPhone 16e comes with a 48MP Fusion camera, which enhances everyday photography. With its built-in 2x Telephoto feature, users can zoom in without sacrificing image quality. The front-facing TrueDepth camera includes autofocus, allowing for sharper selfies and clearer video calls.
The device records 4K video with Dolby Vision at up to 60 frames per second. It also supports Spatial Audio, improving playback quality on AirPods, Apple Vision Pro, or compatible surround sound systems. Users can refine audio recordings with features like Audio Mix, which allows for adjustments such as reducing background noise or highlighting specific voices.
iOS 18 integration
The iPhone 16e runs on iOS 18, bringing more customization options and privacy features. Users can change the appearance of apps and widgets, arrange them freely on the Home Screen, and customize Lock Screen controls. The updated Control Center provides quicker access to frequently used functions, including third-party apps.
Messaging updates include new text effects and the ability to schedule messages for later. Tapbacks now support emoji, Genmoji, and stickers, and the Messages app includes RCS support, offering improved group messaging and richer media sharing between Apple and non-Apple users.
Availability and design
The iPhone 16e will be available in matte black and white finishes, with additional colorful cases for customization. Pre-orders begin on Feb. 21, with the official release set for Feb. 28.
