From a family that spans three decades, Canon EOS (Electro-Optical System) proudly showcased the latest addition to the brood, the Canon EOS R.

The digital imaging company calls it ground-breaking and hopes to set new standards in photography by not limiting it to professionals but also to everyone. Together with the first EOS full-frame mirrorless camera, Canon also launched four novel RF lenses and three new types of mount adapter.

Canon EOS R is Canon’s first 35mm full-frame CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) sensor mirrorless interchangeable-lens digital camera with an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). The new RF mount offers a large 54mm diameter, short flange focal distance of 20mm, and 12-pin connection, which enables fast Auto Focus and enhanced image stabilization and optimization.

“The Canon EOS R System was developed with a vision of continuously taking the whole EOS system further for the photo and video enthusiasts,” said Kazuhiro Ozawa, president and CEO of Canon Marketing Phils. Inc.

Sports and street photographers will benefit from the EOS R near-instantaneous focusing speed of 0.05 seconds, a full-frame Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor that features an incredible 5,655 manually selectable AF points, and ISO sensitivity range of 100-40,000 for stills and 100–25,600 for video. It not delivers an image quality at 30.3 megapixels and allows shooting in low-light conditions. The Auto Lighting Optimizer is driven by the latest DIGIC (digital imaging integrated circuit) that applies gradient for intricate details in highlights and shadows for a well-balanced image.

It is compact and lightweight which allows travel photographers to carry it around without fear or missing a moment.

The EOS R System has four RF lenses representing a new “frontier” in lens design for mirrorless cameras. In addition to the focus and zoom rings found on conventional EF lenses, the RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, RF50mm f/1.2L USM, RF28-70mm f/2L USM, and RF35mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM all incorporate a control ring to which users can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and more.

Engineered to work seamlessly with RF lenses, the EOS R maintains complete compatibility with the EF and EF-S lenses by using one of three optional Mount Adapters — Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, and Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R.

Canon EOS R body only carries a price tag of P147,998 and kit at P214,998.
