Integrated telco company PLDT Inc. is improving its domestic data network by using Ciena’s optical technology to speed up data transmission from the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) system to users across the Philippines.
“With the support of Ciena’s optical technology, we can provide faster, more resilient, and more secure services, powering the Philippines’ digital economy from individual users to enterprises and hyperscalers,” said Blums Pineda, SVP and head of Enterprise Business Group of PLDT and Smart.
PLDT is deploying Ciena’s 6500 platform powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optical technology to handle large volumes of data traffic from global cloud providers. The technology allows PLDT to move data efficiently from the ADC landing station to its nationwide fiber network, reducing delays and improving overall connection quality.
“The Philippines is a key destination for many global cloud providers and enterprises seeking to expand their presence in Asia,” said Matt Vesperman, VP for Asia Pacific of Ciena. “Ciena’s optical technology provides a seamless connectivity link to advance international trade and digital transformation within the Philippines.”
Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite (Navigator NCS) also helps PLDT manage its network more effectively by simplifying and automating planning, provisioning, and maintenance tasks.
The ADC system connects to the recently opened VITRO Santa Rosa (VSR), the country’s first AI-ready data center built and operated by VITRO Inc. Ciena’s optical technology also powers VITRO’s Data Center Interconnect (DCI) solution, which links VSR to other VITRO data centers nationwide.
Through this setup, enterprises can securely connect their servers and data racks across multiple VITRO sites, strengthening disaster recovery capabilities and operational efficiency.
