Vitro Inc., a subsidiary of ePLDT and part of the PLDT Group, is set to enhance the network infrastructure of its Vitro Sta. Rosa (VSR) facility. This upgrade will integrate VSR with other Vitro data centers in Makati, Parañaque, and Pasig, leveraging the technology of Ciena, a global player in networking systems.
The upcoming connection will be powered by Ciena’s Waveserver Ai and 6500 coherent optical technology, enabling the purpose-built 50-megawatt hyperscale facility VSR to meet the growing demands of a hyperconnected world. With a focus on scalability, this improvement also promises to boost operational efficiency.
“Vitro Sta. Rosa will soon connect seamlessly to our other sites in Metro Manila, enhancing our network operations and providing robust connectivity solutions,” Victor Genuino, president and CEO of ePLDT and Vitro Inc, said in a media release.
Beyond connectivity, Ciena’s technology provides a sustainable path for future upgrades. Its ultra-low power consumption reduces energy costs, and the optical layer encryption secures communication between data centers.
“Ciena’s technology is delivering the hyperconnectivity Vitro needs to meet the demands of local and international cloud clients,” said Matthew Vesperman, VP of Asia Pacific at Ciena. This upgrade supports Vitro’s efforts to strengthen the Philippines’ digital infrastructure.
