In a consortium organized by advanced ICT solutions provider delaware Philippines, industry experts discussed the role of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in minimizing food waste and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
The event also highlighted the potential use of artificial intelligence (AI) to address global food waste, which amounts to about one-third of all food produced annually.
Mehmet Kunter, head of Supply Chain and Operations Advisory for Asia Pacific and Japan, SAP, emphasized how AI and machine learning (ML) can significantly enhance supply chain processes. He noted that AI’s ability to improve demand forecasting can reduce overproduction and waste, with implementations already cutting fresh food waste by 20% through more accurate consumer demand predictions.
“Effective food waste management is more than just a logistical challenge; it’s a key component of sustainability. Only by addressing its impact thoughtfully, can organizations ensure long-term, sustainable success,” said Kunter.
The consortium also underscored the necessity of integrating innovative solutions and collective efforts to create a sustainable food system. Kunter reiterated that the combination of human ingenuity and technology is vital for combating food waste and achieving long-term sustainability.
Tech-driven solutions
Simone Pigason, SVP for Customer Success at delaware Philippines, highlighted the consortium’s purpose to foster a robust exchange of ideas on tech-driven solutions. She underscored the importance of addressing food waste not just as a logistical issue but as a crucial sustainability challenge.
Tessa Estrella, consultant on supply chain management pointed out the need for effective inventory management and real-time data analytics to ensure optimal stock levels and prevent spoilage. She stressed that successful food waste management relies on strong communication and collaboration across the supply chain.
delaware Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to leading the food and beverage industry toward more sustainable practices through the adoption of advanced technologies.
Participants were encouraged to implement these advanced strategies to significantly reduce food waste and promote sustainability within their operations.
