Coursera, an online learning platform, has seen a significant increase in demand for Generative AI (GenAI) courses among Filipino learners. This trend aligns with a broader regional shift, as a recent report by AWS indicated that employers across Asean countries are willing to offer 36% higher salaries to employees with AI-related skills.

“The soaring demand for GenAI courses by Filipino learners on Coursera underscores their resilience and forward-thinking spirit needed to thrive in a world driven by rapid technological shifts,” said Raghav Gupta, managing director, Asia Pacific, Coursera.

To meet this growing demand, Coursera is expanding its GenAI offerings globally, focusing on the Philippines. To date, over 13,000 Filipinos have enrolled in GenAI courses on the platform, representing a year-over-year increase of 642%.

The platform has launched several new initiatives to equip individuals and institutions with critical GenAI skills. These include the introduction of seven new GenAI courses and specializations, as well as updates to eight existing entry-level Professional Certificates from industry leaders such as IBM, Microsoft, and Meta. These certificates, which are accessible to learners without prior experience, are designed to help individuals enter high-demand fields like cybersecurity, data analytics, and project management.

GenAI Academy

Coursera’s GenAI Academy, launched in January 2024, provides an educational experience for executives and employees. The academy offers foundational literacy and executive education programs developed in collaboration with top universities and companies, including Microsoft and Google Cloud.

To further enhance accessibility, Coursera now offers AI-powered translations for over 4,600 courses in 21 languages and has introduced an AI-powered Course Builder, enabling institutions to create custom courses efficiently. The platform also emphasizes academic integrity with a new suite of AI tools that bolster assessment and grading processes, ensuring the authenticity of skill development.
