DITO Home WOWFi aims to deliver faster and more affordable internet to Filipino households by utilizing its “true 5G” network through RedCap technology.

RedCap or reduced capability was initially used in industrial settings but DITO saw its potential to enable consumers to enjoy 5G for their array of smart devices. According to DITO, though, this is the first time that RedCap will be applied to a consumer setting.

Simply put, with RedCap the network allocates just enough capability to power certain devices that don’t need the full strength of 5G, such as smart devices like smartwatches. This allows users to enjoy faster speeds and reliable connections without using more power or data than necessary, making it a more efficient option for everyday internet use.

“We believe RedCap will change how homes access the internet,” said Ret. Maj. Gen. Rodolfo Santiago, CTO of DITO Telecommunity. “It provides an affordable, reliable, and high-performance option.”
