Equinix, a data center operator, has opened its first International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, through a joint venture with PT Astra International Tbk (Astra).
Called JK1, the facility is designed to help global and local businesses grow their digital services. Located in Jakarta’s Central Business District, JK1 connects to more than 50 local and international network service providers and internet exchanges.
“As Equinix’s first data center in Indonesia, Equinix JK1 is expected to serve as a strategic gateway for global technology companies and startups to expand their investments,” said Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of Indonesia.
Building secure digital networks
Hafid pointed out that Indonesia offers advantages such as stable water supply and access to energy, including strong potential for renewable energy, which helps make data center operations more efficient.
JK1 gives businesses access to Equinix’s global platform, allowing them to scale quickly and build secure digital networks. The facility is expected to support both local and international companies as they set up or grow operations in Indonesia.
“Southeast Asia is a strategic market for Equinix, and our global customers as demonstrated by the impressive lineup of customers already committed to JK1 at its inauguration,” said Cyrus Adaggra, president of Asia-Pacific at Equinix.
JK1 data center specifications
JK1 has eight floors. It can support 550 cabinets in its first phase, and will hold up to 1,600 cabinets and offer 5,300 square meters of colocation space once complete. It also offers interconnection services such as Equinix Fabric and Equinix Internet Access.
Designed with energy efficiency in mind, JK1 uses technologies like Cooling Array and liquid cooling to handle high-performance computing needs, including AI. It targets a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.41 at full load and follows global standards set by ASHRAE.
The facility is powered by renewable energy credits (RECs), in line with Equinix’s global effort to reduce carbon emissions and improve operational efficiency.
