Filipino travelers can now make cashless payments at more locations in Japan with finance aoo GCash. Thanks to its partnership with Alipay+ and Japan’s PayPay, the GCash Global Pay feature enables users to scan to pay at over three million merchants across Japan.

The expanded service spans metropolitan cities like Tokyo and Osaka and reaches smaller towns and countryside areas. GCash users can enjoy shopping, dining, and booking accommodations using the app. Merchants include local businesses such as izakayas, souvenir shops, guesthouses, and specialty stores.

“GCash is committed to creating a seamless experience for Filipino travelers,” said Paul Albano, general manager of GCash International. “With cashless payments now widely available, users can explore Japan without the stress of managing cash or worrying about limited payment options.”

Since its launch in Japan in 2023, GCash has worked with Alipay+ to support Japan’s goal of promoting tourism through cashless payments. Users can pay by scanning PayPay QR codes or showing their GCash-generated QR code via the app’s “Pay abroad with Alipay+” feature. Receipts are viewable in both Philippine pesos and Japanese yen, ensuring transparency in transactions.

Travelers can also get real-time foreign exchange rates and zero service fees, helping them stretch their travel budgets.

“Through this partnership, we bridge gaps in global tourism and bring Filipino travelers closer to a worry-free experience,” Albano added.
