GCash, Mastercard launch Tap n’ Pay for contactless payments

GCash

GCash and Mastercard have rolled out Tap n’ Pay, a new contactless payment feature that allows users to make purchases by tapping their Android phones on Mastercard-enabled point-of-sale (POS) terminals.

Tap n’ Pay simplifies everyday payments by using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Users only need to activate the feature in the GCash app and connect to the internet or mobile data to tap and pay at any POS terminal that accepts Mastercard.

Tap n’ Pay is currently available for local transactions in the Philippines. GCash plans to expand its reach internationally soon.

Enhancing digital payments

“This collaboration further solidifies our commitment to offering Filipinos convenient and secure cashless payment solutions, making everyday transactions easier and more seamless,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, president and CEO of G-XChange Inc., the operator of GCash.

Mastercard brings its global network and security features to the service, while GCash provides a widely used mobile wallet for Filipinos.

“The collaboration advances Mastercard’s commitment to providing greater choice for cardholders and enabling a more frictionless payment experience,” said Simon Calasanz, country manager, Philippines, Mastercard.

The technology behind Tap n’ Pay is powered by OpenFabric, a digital payments partner that enables secure token provisioning and transaction management. This setup ensures a smooth and safe experience for both users and merchants.
