Commuters no longer need to line up for tickets or carry coins when riding MRT-3. GCash, in partnership with the Department of Transportation, has launched a cashless payment system for train fares.
As long as you have at least ₱28 in your GCash wallet (the maximum fare from North Avenue to Taft), you can use any of these options:
1. Tap to Pay with your phone
Works on NFC-enabled Android phones
Activate once in your GCash app under “Tap to Pay”
At the station, open your app and tap your phone at the turnstile
2. Scan with a Commute QR
Generate a QR code in the GCash app under “Commute”
Scan the QR at the fast lane upon entry and exit
Works even without mobile data for Globe and TM users
3. Tap with a GCash Visa Card
Tap the card on the turnstile, just like the stored-value ticket
Linked directly to your GCash wallet
Can also be used for shopping and ATM withdrawals
Order one in the GCash app for ₱250 (delivery in 7-10 days)
Exact fares are deducted automatically, and your balance is updated in real time. For Visa Card users, change is temporarily credited after 24 hours.
With these options, MRT-3 commuters can skip long lines and travel cashless using just their phone or card.
