Telecommunications company Globe is strengthening its mobile network in South Luzon and Bicol by setting up Battery Charging Hubs to help keep services running during typhoons and long power outages.

These areas often lose mobile signal and internet access after strong storms because commercial power can be out for extended periods. Globe said the new facilities are meant to keep backup batteries for cell sites in good working condition so services can be restored faster.

The Battery Charging Hubs allow Globe teams to test, recharge, and replace batteries more quickly. This helps reduce downtime at cell sites and supports continued mobile service during emergencies and prolonged power interruptions.

The company said the project is important for communities in South Luzon and Bicol, which are regularly affected by severe weather. By keeping communication systems active, residents can continue to work, study, and contact family members even when storms disrupt daily life.

“Connectivity is a vital part of people’s everyday lives,” said Joel Agustin, SVP for Network Planning and Engineering at Globe. “That is why we strive to keep our cell sites operational, especially when disasters strike. We’re making sure that communities can count on Globe to stay connected no matter the situation.”

Battery Charging Hubs are already operating in San Pablo, Laguna, and Batangas. Deployment is also ongoing in Pili, Camarines Sur. Globe said more facilities are being prepared in Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Each hub can service several batteries every week, ensuring there are enough fully charged units ready to be deployed when needed. Globe said its personnel across all hub locations have undergone training to handle battery recovery and maintenance, spot potential issues early, and help avoid service disruptions.

Globe added that the initiative also supports its sustainability efforts. As the company increases the use of renewable energy in its operations, the hubs are expected to help improve energy efficiency and reduce waste by extending battery life and improving battery management across its network.
