Globe, a digital solutions company, has reported a 26% rise in theft incidents within its network facilities nationwide over the past year.
According to Globe, this surge in pilferage, including the theft of cable lines, batteries, and electronics, has escalated from 3,069 cases in 2022 to 3,887 cases in 2023. Despite concerted efforts in collaboration with law enforcement, these incidents have persisted, resulting in 1,153 service disruptions in affected areas.
“When our network facilities are compromised, it disrupts essential connectivity that people heavily rely on for day-to-day activities at work and in school, and for critical tasks such as emergency response,” said Joel Agustin, SVP and head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe. “Every outage caused by pilferage impacts not just the business but, more so, our customers.”

In response to escalating security concerns, Globe is intensifying its asset protection strategies and urging local government units (LGUs) to conduct random inspections to boost telecommunications equipment security. The company appeals to the public for increased vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities related to battery theft and other forms of pilferage. It warns against involvement in buying or selling stolen property, emphasizing the legal repercussions, including fines and imprisonment.
