Globe has upgraded its SIM registration platform to expedite data verification within 24 hours, a move that aims to combat fraud in line with new National Telecommunications Commission guidelines.
This enhancement by Globe boosts existing security measures in place like Optical Character Recognition and data-matching capabilities, along with a mandatory selfie requirement.
“With improved verification, Globe will be able to immediately weed out fraudulent submissions and avoid issues we had to confront in the first year of SIM Registration, including the use of fake IDs and fraudulent information,” said Atty. Froilan Castelo, General Counsel of the Globe Group. “Our goal is to complete validation within 24 hours, and we’ll continue to fine-tune our solution as we test this process.”

The company is verifying data for an estimated 61.4 million SIM users, anticipating completion by 2024. To further bolster verification, Globe urges government collaboration by granting access to its official ID database. This collaboration is pivotal in authenticating submitted IDs, and differentiating between genuine and counterfeit documents.
Globe’s SIM registration platform launched shortly after the SIM Registration Act’s implementing rules in December 2022. Since then, 53.7 million existing SIMs and 7.7 million new SIMs post-deadline (July 30, 2023) have been registered, aligning with the Act’s requirements.
According to the company has blocked 5.31 billion spam messages and over 208,000 suspicious SIMs from January to November 2023. This includes deactivating 7,403 SIMs from its network and blacklisting 200,686 SIMs from other networks associated with fraudulent activities.
