Globe is partnering with Transcelestial to install more than 400 wireless laser links across the Philippines over the next three years, aiming to deliver faster and more reliable 5G services.
“Globe’s strategy recognizes that no single technology will define the future of national networks,” said Joel Agustin, senior vice president for Engineering and Network Planning at Globe. “The move to deploy Transcelestial lasers represents an acceleration of our commitment to bring better access to more Filipinos at speed.”
By using laser technology for last-mile and backhaul connections, Globe can overcome traditional infrastructure challenges, such as laying fiber across mountains, coastlines, and disaster-prone areas. The solution provides secure, interference-free connections for events, emergency response, or remote locations.
“Our 400-link rollout with Globe is a signal that the country is embracing new infrastructure models to overcome old constraints,” Rohit Jha, CEO and co-founder of Transcelestial
The project is supported by Kickstart Ventures, Globe’s corporate venture capital arm, which invested in Transcelestial to scale transformative connectivity technologies.
“By supporting scalable, resilient connectivity solutions, we’re helping enable more inclusive economic participation across regions, which is fundamental to building a more future-ready Philippines,” Joan Yao, general partner at Kickstart Ventures
Early trials in Visayas and Mindanao, as well as high-demand events at the Philippine Arena in 2024-2025, showed the technology’s reliability, giving Globe the confidence to expand nationwide. Local engineering partner Asticom has been providing on-the-ground technical support since 2023.
