At the recent trilateral summit involving the United States, Japan, and the Philippines in Washington D.C., Google reiterated its commitment to boosting the digital landscape of the Philippines. 

Google outlined its multifaceted approach, spanning digital skilling initiatives, infrastructure enhancement, and pivotal involvement in the implementation of the National Cybersecurity Plan.

Citing the Economic Impact Report of 2021, Google revealed substantial annual economic benefits for local businesses and consumers, as it rolled out different products and services geared toward different markets. These benefits stem from the utilization of Google’s suite of tools such as Ads, AdSense, and YouTube, indirectly fostering over 110,000 jobs in the country.

“We’ve also focused on growing our presence and investment in the Philippines working closely with Filipino businesses and the public sector in their digital transformation journey through Google Cloud, Google Ads, and more recently, with our largest and most capable AI model Gemini,” said Marcus Jadotte, VP for Government Affairs and Public Policy for Cloud, Google.

Cybersecurity

Jadotte highlighted Google’s efforts in collaborating with businesses in the Philippines and the public sector to facilitate digital transformation.

Google underscored its commitment to supporting the Philippine government in cybersecurity efforts. Earlier intelligence sharing with Philippine authorities regarding attempted cyber intrusions demonstrated Google’s commitment to bolstering national security measures. Google highlighted the importance of collaboration in implementing the National Cybersecurity Plan, emphasizing the necessity of a technology-positive regulatory framework and supportive national policies.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also noted the significance of partnerships with Google during the summit, particularly in internet infrastructure investments aimed at bolstering the IT-BPM industry. Discussions revolved around deploying redundant subsea cable links and providing training in digital literacy, cybersecurity, and cloud storage solutions.

Google’s ongoing efforts in digital skilling and infrastructure development align with broader initiatives aimed at empowering the Philippines in the digital age, fostering economic growth and national resilience.
