Google is making costume planning easier this Halloween through its AI-powered feature called Nano Banana, which works with Gemini to generate visual ideas from text prompts.

Nano Banana allows users to describe their costume concept in words and instantly see AI-generated images that can serve as visual guides. It aims to help people come up with creative costume ideas and visualize how they might look before starting to gather materials.

To use Gemini for costume planning, users simply describe their idea in a short prompt, including details such as the character, style, and accessories. Google shared a simple guide to help users craft better prompts:

What to Include in Your PromptExample DetailWhy It Works
CharacterA zombie barista…Establishes the main idea of the costume.
Style or era…in a ’90s grunge outfit…Sets the look and tone.
Key accessory…holding a latte that is glowing green.Adds a unique or recognizable element.

Users can modify their prompts as many times as they like to explore different versions of their ideas. For instance, a “cyberpunk wizard with glowing neon runes and a cat familiar” can be changed into a “1980s cyberpunk wizard with a robotic dog” simply by updating the text.

Gemini then generates new visuals based on these descriptions, helping users plan materials, colors, and accessories more efficiently. The feature is designed for anyone, from casual partygoers to DIY enthusiasts, who wants to save time and simplify the creative process.

Google reminds users to use AI tools responsibly by avoiding prompts that depict real people or public figures. The company encourages users to focus on fictional and original concepts to ensure safe and ethical use of AI.
