GoTyme Bank has integrated directly with the Philippine Statistics Authority’s National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS), becoming one of the first banks in the country to use the system for digital account opening.

The integration allows customers to verify their identity without scanning or uploading a government ID. Instead, they can use the QR code on a physical, digital, or paper PhilSys ID, enter their PhilSys Card Number (PCN), or provide their name and date of birth.

By removing the document upload step, GoTyme Bank said customers can open an account in as little as five minutes with fewer verification steps.

The move addresses one of the biggest barriers to financial inclusion in the Philippines. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data shows that about half of Filipino adults remain unbanked or underbanked, while more than 94 million Filipinos have already registered with PhilSys. Many people abandon digital account applications because they are unsure whether their ID documents will be accepted.

The new process is expected to benefit first-time bank users, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), and people living in areas with limited access to bank branches by making digital account opening simpler.

“With our direct integration into the National ID Authentication Services, GoTyme Bank can verify a customer’s identity against official government records in real time, making account opening simpler, faster, and more secure,” said Shern Teo, chief strategy & proposition officer at GoTyme Bank. “What this means is the ability to open a GoTyme Bank account in as little as five minutes, with fewer steps. We are simplifying banking and making it easier for more Filipinos to access the financial services they need, unlocking the full potential of every Filipino.”

Unlike banks that simply accept the PhilSys card as a valid ID, GoTyme Bank’s system connects directly to the government’s identity verification platform. This eliminates the need to capture or upload identity documents during onboarding.

The partnership also highlights how government digital identity systems can be used beyond identification. By allowing real-time verification, PhilSys can help banks reduce onboarding friction, expand access to financial services, and encourage more Filipinos to join the formal banking system.
