Henry Rhoel R. Aguda has been appointed as the new secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) after Ivan John Uy stepped down earlier this month.

The DICT announced Aguda’s appointment on its Facebook page, expressing support for his leadership.

“The DICT family stands fully committed to supporting Secretary Aguda in realizing President Marcos’ vision of a secure, inclusive, and progressive Philippines,” the post said. “Under his leadership, we reaffirm that digitalization, connectivity, digital inclusion, and cybersecurity will remain central to our national priorities.”

Aguda brings extensive experience from the banking and telecommunications sectors. Before becoming a Cabinet member, he held key leadership roles at Union Bank of the Philippines and its digital subsidiary, UnionDigital Bank, where he served as president and CEO. He also worked at Globe as senior vice president and chief information officer from 2012 to 2015.

President’s adviser

His background includes a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a Juris Doctor of Laws from the University of the Philippines. He previously served in the public sector as senior vice president and chief technology officer of the Government Service Insurance System’s IT Group from 2009 to 2011.

As the Digital Infrastructure Sector Lead of the Private Sector Advisory Council, Aguda advised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on strategies to enhance digital infrastructure and generate digital jobs.
