HitPay launches borderless QR for cross-border payments

Payment platform HitPay introduced Borderless QR, a software feature designed to help small businesses in Southeast Asia (SEA) accept payments from international tourists using various digital wallets.

The company said the solution allows its network of more than 20,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to accept cross-border payments through a single QR system. Tourism in Southeast Asia is projected to reach $39.52 billion in 2026, increasing demand for merchants to support payment methods used by foreign visitors.

MSMEs account for about 97% of businesses in the region. Many retail and food and beverage establishments face challenges in supporting different payment standards required by foreign e-wallets. Borderless QR aims to simplify this process by enabling merchants to generate payment QR codes that match the visitor’s home country.

“Borderless QR is about supporting the region’s spirit of collaboration by providing a streamlined checkout flow,” said Aditya Haripurkar, co-founder and CEO of HitPay. “Merchants can simply select a customer’s home country to generate a specific QR with a real-time converted amount, ensuring visitors pay with the wallets they trust while merchants continue to settle in their own currency.”

Using the HitPay app, merchants enter the purchase amount and select the visitor’s country to generate a dynamic QR code. Customers can pay using their local wallets at mid-market exchange rates with no additional fees, while merchants receive payments in their local currency the following day.

HitPay said the feature supports regional payment systems such as QR Ph in the Philippines, PayNow in Singapore, QRIS in Indonesia, PromptPay in Thailand, and VietQR in Vietnam. It also supports international wallets including WeChat Pay from China and UPI from India.

The company said the feature supports the ASEAN Regional Payment Connectivity initiative by helping MSMEs adopt cross-border payment standards through software updates without requiring new infrastructure.
