Global PC shipments grew 6.5% year over year in the second quarter of 2025, with worldwide volumes reaching 68.4 million units, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).

Lenovo led the market with 17 million units shipped and a 24.8% share, followed by HP Inc. with 14.1 million units and a 20.7% share. Dell Technologies, Apple, and Asus rounded out the top five. IDC noted that Apple saw the strongest growth among the top vendors at 21.4% compared to the same quarter last year.

Dell Technologies shipped 9.8 million units for a 14.3% share, though it saw a 3% decline from last year. Apple ranked fourth with 6.2 million units and a 9.1% share, showing the highest growth among the top five at 21.4%. Asus shipped 4.9 million units and has a 7.2% share, growing 16.7%. Other vendors combined shipped 16.3 million units, maintaining about 23.9% of the market.

Despite global growth, IDC said the US market showed signs of slowing as vendors adjust to potential import tariffs.

“We expected the US market to cool down this quarter, given the inventory buildup to begin the year, but what we’re witnessing here might highlight US PC demand slowing down in anticipation of the import tariffs looming deadline,” said Jean Philippe Bouchard, research vice president with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.

He added that demand in other regions remained steady, supported by an aging installed base and the transition to Windows 11.

“We realize growth in such an indeterminate market seems odd, but many factors come into play supporting the momentum,” said Ryan Reith, group vice president with IDC’s Worldwide Device Trackers.

IDC said vendors are balancing the risks of overstocking inventory while also preparing for price increases tied to tariffs. These price changes could vary by market and vendor, and some vendors may offer promotions to move inventory despite rising costs, IDC noted.
