Jackery’s new Explorer 500 V2 portable power station offers backup electricity for household devices during brownouts, with a feature that switches connected equipment to battery power in less than 10 milliseconds.
The unit has a 512 watt-hour (Wh) battery capacity and a maximum output of 500 watts (W). Battery capacity determines how much energy it can store, while the output rating limits how much power connected devices can draw at a time.
Its built-in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) feature detects a power failure and automatically switches to the battery. The fast switchover is designed to help keep devices such as Wi-Fi routers and desktop computers running when electricity from the grid stops.
For households working or studying online, the feature provides backup power for equipment needed to stay connected. Actual performance depends on the connected devices and their power requirements.
Jackery says the Explorer 500 V2 can power a Wi-Fi router for up to 30 hours, a small refrigerator for four hours, or a desk fan for up to 3.8 hours. These are estimates for individual uses; running several devices together draws more power and reduces battery runtime.
The power station weighs 5.7 kilograms and has a fold-down handle for carrying it between rooms or bringing it outdoors. According to Jackery, its frame is 29% smaller than its predecessor.
Its 500W output rating is a key consideration when choosing which appliances to connect. Users need to check their equipment’s power requirements, including any extra power needed at startup, to determine whether the unit can support them.
