A recent report by cybersecurity solutions provider Kaspersky reveals that 59% of geographically distributed businesses experience network issues, such as outages, lost connections, and poor service performance, at least once a month.
The report, titled “Managing geographically distributed businesses: challenges and solutions,” analyzed the network security challenges companies face while building and maintaining their multi-site infrastructure.
“Given the importance of network infrastructure for modern businesses, any network downtime and IT issues carry a huge risk that can lead to reputational and financial losses,” Maxim Kaminsky, business development manager, Secure Access Service Edge, Kaspersky, said in a media release.
The report highlights that 46% of geo-distributed companies encounter network problems one to three times monthly, with 13% facing challenges weekly. About 40% of businesses report these issues only a few times per year or not at all.
Among the common network challenges, 55% of companies reported network failures or outages as the most prevalent issue. Loss of connectivity and poor performance of services were problems for 45% of respondents. Additionally, 37% cited inadequate connection capacity, and 32% experienced complete or partial network shutdowns.
To address these challenges, Kaspersky experts recommend using dedicated solutions like Kaspersky SD-WAN, which allows businesses to manage their entire corporate network from a single console. This approach integrates separate communication channels and network functions, simplifying the construction of reliable networks and enabling the seamless connection of new branches.
