According to a recent survey from cybersecurity solutions provider Keeper Security, 92% of respondents witnessed a year-over-year increase in cyber attacks, all agreeing that these attacks are now more sophisticated than ever before.
Among the emerging attack vectors, AI-powered attacks ranked as the most serious concern, with 51% of IT leaders citing them as the primary challenge to handle. This trend underscores the growing complexity of cyber threats and the pressing need for robust cybersecurity measures.
Alongside AI-powered attacks, threats such as deepfake technology, supply chain attacks, and cloud jacking have gained prominence, each presenting unique challenges to organizations across sectors. Despite recognizing the gravity of these threats, a significant portion of IT leaders admitted to being ill-equipped to defend against them.

“Malicious actors are wreaking havoc on vulnerable organizations in novel ways, leveraging emerging technology to execute devastating cyberattacks,” said Darren Guccione, CEO and co-founder of Keeper Security.
Cyber threats
The 2024 Keeper Security Insight Report, titled “The Future of Defense: IT Leaders Brace for Unprecedented Cyber Threats,” surveyed over 800 IT and security leaders globally, highlighting their struggles to adapt to the evolving threat landscape.
The report highlights the impact of cyber attacks on organizations, with 73% of respondents reporting monetary losses as a result of cyber incidents. Beyond financial implications, successful cyber attacks can lead to business disruption, revenue loss, and reputational damage, underscoring the multifaceted consequences of inadequate cybersecurity measures.
While grappling with emerging threats, IT leaders continue to contend with traditional attack vectors, including phishing, malware, ransomware, and password attacks. The proliferation of AI tools has exacerbated the challenges posed by these threats, making detection more difficult and enabling cybercriminals to scale their operations.
Stolen or weak passwords remain a prevalent cause of breaches, with 52% of respondents reporting their IT teams’ struggles with frequently stolen credentials. This underscores the critical importance of implementing robust password management solutions to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access.
The report underscores the need for organizations to integrate comprehensive cybersecurity solutions, including password and privileged access management (PAM) tools, to fortify their defenses against evolving cyber threats. Despite the ever-changing nature of cyber attacks, adherence to fundamental cybersecurity principles remains paramount in safeguarding organizations against potential breaches.
“Fighting evolving threats requires constant adaptation, underscoring the need for a proactive approach to cybersecurity – one that combines advanced defense mechanisms and basic best practices to identify evolving threats and defeat a cyberattack,” Guccione said.
