More than 60% of Filipino small and medium enterprises (SME) remain careful about current conditions but expect the business environment to improve in 2026, according to a survey by on-demand delivery platform Lalamove.
The survey found that 61% of respondents have a cautious but optimistic outlook for the country’s business landscape next year compared with this year. Another 22% said their outlook is unchanged and uncertain, while 31% said they are looking forward to better business prospects in 2026.
Despite this outlook, many SMEs said they continue to make careful decisions because of ongoing challenges. Interest rates and inflation remain top concerns, with 83% of respondents saying these could block business growth over the next 12 months. Low consumer spending or changes in customer demand were cited by 82% as another risk, while 72% pointed to high logistics costs as a possible barrier in 2026. These concerns show worries about how economic uncertainty could affect profits.
“At Lalamove, we value the insights of the many businesses we serve,” said Djon Nacario, managing director of Lalamove Philippines. “Our survey underscores both their optimism and their concerns about the business landscape in the coming months, giving us a clearer understanding of their needs. We remain focused on helping them manage costs and become more flexible through affordable and efficient on-demand logistics solutions,” he said.
The survey was conducted between September and October and covered about 500 respondents, mostly micro, small, and medium enterprises.
As the year-end season approaches, many SMEs are preparing for expected holiday demand. About 60% of respondents said they are increasing and stocking up on inventory. While 37% said they plan to adjust delivery timelines as early as September, when the survey was conducted. This suggests confidence that Christmas demand will remain strong despite recent calamities and political concerns.
Also, 67% of SMEs said they believe customers will still prepare for the usual holiday celebrations. As a result, launching Christmas marketing and advertising campaigns remains their top strategy for the season, even with the country’s recent challenges.
Logistics continues to play a role in business operations. Around 72% of SMEs said logistics or on-demand delivery services are among their most important resources. When choosing a delivery provider, affordable pricing ranked as the top consideration, followed by speed and safe delivery.
The survey shows that while Filipino SMEs remain cautious, many are adjusting their plans and relying on key services to stay stable and prepare for potential growth in 2026.
