Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank) has added more investment services to its mobile app, allowing customers to invest in Unit Investment Trust Funds (UITFs) and trade peso government bonds without going to a branch.

The enhanced Metrobank App combines everyday banking with UITF Online and Wealth Manager, giving customers one place to invest, monitor their portfolios, and access other wealth management services.

Through UITF Online, customers can choose from more than 25 Metrobank UITFs covering different asset classes, currencies, investment goals, and risk levels. Investments are available in pesos and US dollars, depending on the currency of the customer’s enrolled Metrobank savings account.

Customers can start investing for as low as ₱1,000, although the minimum amount varies by fund. They can also monitor their UITF portfolio, redeem investments, and download statements of accounts through the app.

To open a UITF account, customers can select UITF Online from the Metrobank App menu, watch an educational video, provide the required information, and take a suitability assessment to determine their risk profile. They must then assign a settlement account before investing.

Existing UITF Online accounts will automatically appear in the app. Metrobank UITF investors who are not yet enrolled in UITF Online can enroll in the settlement account linked to their investment account.

Government bonds

Customers looking for other investment options can use Wealth Manager, which allows them to directly buy and sell government bonds in the secondary market.

Wealth Manager also provides a consolidated view of a customer’s investment portfolio, access to a Wealth Specialist, and market and economic information through Wealth Insights.

Customers can enroll in Wealth Manager through the Metrobank App. Existing clients can enter their Investment ID, while new clients can sign up and designate a settlement account. Metrobank said customers should receive an email about their application status within 24 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.

The addition of investment services to the Metrobank App gives customers another way to manage their money without visiting a branch or using separate platforms.

The latest Metrobank App is available on the App Store, Google Play, and Huawei AppGallery.
