Metrobank is warning customers about the rising threat of vishing, or “voice phishing” scams, and how to avoid falling victim.

Vishing occurs when fraudsters pose as legitimate representatives from banks or other institutions, attempting to trick individuals into sharing personal or financial information over the phone. This often includes sensitive details like credit card numbers, CVVs, and One-Time Pins (OTPs).

The scam typically involves the fraudster creating a sense of urgency, excitement, or fear, prompting the victim to act quickly without verifying the legitimacy of the call. Metrobank stresses the importance of not giving in to these tactics and provides several key tips for staying safe.

First, if there’s any doubt about the caller’s identity, it’s crucial to hang up immediately and verify by contacting the institution directly using the official hotline numbers listed on their website. Never share personal information, such as OTPs or credit card details, as legitimate representatives from financial institutions will not ask for these details over the phone.

For Metrobank customers, enabling the AppKey feature in the Metrobank app offers an additional layer of security. This feature uses biometric verification, like fingerprint or facial recognition, instead of relying on OTPs for transactions.

Metrobank also advises being cautious of offers or promos that sound too good to be true, as scammers often use these to lure victims. If you receive a suspicious call, block the number and report it to the authorities. Metrobank clients can report incidents through their hotline at (02) 88-700-700.

By following these guidelines, Metrobank customers can protect themselves from vishing scams and ensure their financial safety.
