Metrobank has rolled out a new security feature, AppKey, for its mobile banking application, promising to provide customers with a faster and more secure way to complete transactions. The AppKey feature is meant to enhance the security and convenience of mobile banking, moving away from the traditional one-time password (OTP) system.

AppKey integrates two-factor authentication through biometric data and device identification, which are increasingly seen as strong measures against unauthorized access. By replacing OTPs with fingerprint or facial recognition, AppKey leverages the unique nature of biometrics, reducing the risk of fraudulent transactions.

In addition to biometric authentication, AppKey also ties the ability to authorize transactions to a specific device. This means that even if someone gains access to your login credentials, they won’t be able to complete transactions without approval from the primary device you’ve enrolled. This added layer of security helps protect your account from unauthorized access, ensuring that your funds remain safe.

The process to activate AppKey is straightforward. After logging into the Metrobank app, users can enhance their security by selecting the “Enhance security with AppKey” option, entering their passcode, and confirming their identity with an SMS OTP. The final step involves enabling biometrics, after which AppKey will be activated within 24 hours.

Metrobank encourages its account holders to activate AppKey for a more secure and efficient banking experience. The Metrobank App is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
