Globe has partnered with Nokia to deploy the latter’s Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) solution across key regions in the Philippines. This collaboration will cover North Luzon, South Luzon, the National Capital Region, Visayas, and Mindanao, and will modernize Globe’s infrastructure.
Nokia’s BNG solution will support Globe’s residential wireline postpaid and prepaid broadband services. It is designed to optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and introduce support for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services. This development will allow Globe to move toward Fixed Mobile Convergence, seamlessly integrating wireline and wireless access technologies.
“We are committed to continuously improving our network infrastructure to provide the best possible broadband experience to our subscribers,” said Joel Agustin, SVP, Network Planning and Engineering, Network Technical Group at Globe Telecom. “Nokia’s new BNG solution introduces the capability to evolve into a flexible multi-access gateway that can combine wireline and wireless access technologies, enabling us to further increase efficiencies. We are looking forward to working with Nokia on this crucial initiative.”
The deployment will leverage Nokia’s 7750 Service Router (SR) as the BNG platform, facilitating subscriber management, bandwidth control, and per-subscriber policy management. Globe will then implement Nokia’s 7750 SR Extended Services Appliance (ESA) to provide Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) and Application Assurance functions, essential for managing modern broadband services efficiently.
“Our BNG solution, equipped with multi-access gateway capabilities, is based on 7750 SR and powered by our breakthrough FP network processor technology and proven Service Router Operating System (SR OS),” said Kent Wong, VP and head of IP Business at Nokia Asia Pacific. “This will help build a scalable, flexible, and energy-efficient broadband network and pave the way for future evolution towards Fixed Mobile Convergence.”
