Chipmaker Nvidia is teaming up with key manufacturing partners to produce its AI supercomputers entirely in the United States for the first time, signaling a shift in its production strategy as demand for (artificial intelligence) AI chips continues to grow.

Nvidia said it is developing factories in Texas and expanding its chip manufacturing presence in Arizona. The company confirmed it has secured more than a million square feet of production space to assemble and test its Blackwell chips and AI systems.

“The engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the United States for the first time,” Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, said in a statement. “Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain, and boosts our resiliency.”

Strengthening partnerships

Over the next four years, Nvidia aims to produce up to $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure in the country. This effort includes close partnerships with Foxconn, Wistron, TSMC, Amkor, and SPIL.

Production of Nvidia Blackwell chips has started at TSMC’s facility in Phoenix, Arizona. In Texas, Nvidia is setting up supercomputer plants with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. Both facilities are expected to begin full-scale production within the next 12 to 15 months.

Packaging and testing will be handled in Arizona by Amkor and SPIL, which specialize in the complex processes required to deliver advanced AI hardware.
