The country’s flag carrier, Philippine Airlines (PAL), has reintroduced its cargo brand, PAL Cargo, as part of its strategy to meet the growing demand for logistics services driven by e-commerce and global trade.
At the launch event, PAL president Richard Nuttall said the refreshed cargo brand underlines the airline’s commitment to supporting businesses and individuals through reliable cargo services. He noted that the carrier is well-equipped to provide what the market needs.
“For now, our share of business is 5% cargo,” said Jason Siy, vice president for cargo at PAL. “But we are not getting the fair share when you benchmark against other airlines, they are probably at the 7%-8%.”
PAL Cargo offers a wide range of services that cater to individual senders, freight forwarders, corporate clients, and large businesses. It transports various types of shipments, including high-value items, pharmaceuticals, perishables, and e-commerce goods.
PAL Cargo also rolled out a redesigned booking platform that allows customers to book, pay, and track shipments online. A mobile app is in development and is expected to be launched in the coming months.
To ensure safety and efficiency, PAL Cargo adheres to strict international standards, including IATA guidelines for pet transport and handling high-value goods. These items receive special handling, being loaded last and unloaded first, and are often accompanied by security escorts or assigned teams for charter flights.
“We make things happen by ensuring that your shipments are safely and securely delivered to the 30 domestic destinations and 40 international destinations,” said Alvin Miranda, vice president for marketing at PAL.
PAL Cargo operates from its main terminal at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila, with major hubs in Clark, Cebu, and Davao. These locations serve as key points for domestic and international cargo operations.
In partnership with Airspeed and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), PAL Cargo also aims to support small businesses by making it easier to ship products locally and overseas.
Plans are underway to launch a Port-to-Door delivery service, and PAL is looking to integrate its Mabuhay Miles program to let customers earn rewards through cargo transactions.
