PayMongo opens QR Ph merchant network to Skyro borrowers

Back End News - QR Payments

PayMongo and consumer finance platform Skyro are partnering to enable approved Skyro customers to use a digital credit line at QR Ph merchants on PayMongo’s network. The arrangement could help businesses make sales to customers who need credit but do not have a credit card.

Merchants will continue accepting QR Ph as they do now. They will not need a new terminal, technical integration, or separate enrollment to accept payments made with a Skyro credit line, the companies said.

Customers can apply for Skyro financing with one government-issued ID. They do not need an existing credit card or a conventional bank credit history. Those approved for SkyroCredit receive a reusable digital credit line for everyday purchases.

The partnership links two services that have grown at different speeds in the Philippines. Digital payments accounted for 57.4% of retail transactions by volume in 2024, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). But only one in 20 Filipino consumers had a credit card, TransUnion reported in October 2025.

The BSP’s 2025 Financial Inclusion Survey found that 25% of adults had borrowed money, while 16% had borrowed from a formal source. For merchants, giving approved borrowers a way to pay through QR Ph may mean fewer customers putting off a purchase because they cannot pay the full amount immediately.

“Skyro has built the credit, and we have built both the places to spend it and the rails to move it,” said Jojo Malolos, CEO,  PayMongo.

Skyro will also use the partnership to offer more ways to repay loans digitally, including through online banks and e-wallets. For Skyro, access to PayMongo’s existing merchant network means it can expand where customers spend their credit without building a separate payment acceptance system.

PayMongo is also expanding its work with lenders and fintech companies. Its payment infrastructure can be used to send loan funds, accept purchases, and collect repayments. On PayMongo’s platform, QR Ph accounted for 55% of total payment volume in the first half of 2026, exceeding credit cards.

Skyro has issued more than 2 million product loans in the Philippines. It uses data analytics and a digital application process to assess applicants, including people without formal credit histories.

“Building good, sustainable payments infrastructure is the foundation for financial services to reach customers who are unbanked or underbanked. For us, this is not only about lending; we are moving in the direction of financial services Filipinos can use on a daily basis, and more frequent transactions need more reliable infrastructure,” said Nasim Aliev, co-founder and co-CEO, Skyro.
