President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently inaugurated a P7-billion battery manufacturing plant in Tarlac aimed at promoting renewable energy (RE) in the country.
Marcos believes this development will encourage more investors to explore the country’s RE sector, which is crucial as the nation faces the growing challenges of climate change.
During the inauguration of StB Giga Factory in New Clark City, the President emphasized the importance of this new facility, which is the country’s first plant to produce advanced lithium iron phosphate batteries. He noted that the plant plays a key role in the country’s clean energy transition.
“This facility works alongside the Philippines’ renewable energy efforts as we shift to sustainable power sources. Its products could attract more investors to build renewable energy facilities here,” Marcos said.
StB Giga Factory has future plans to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market, a move Marcos supports as it aligns with the government’s goal of boosting the country’s EV industry. By developing locally-made EVs and components, the Philippines can reduce its dependence on imported fuel.
The President also pointed out that the adoption of renewable energy and EVs, once seen as optional, should now be prioritized.
