PLDT Inc., an integrated telco network, and its wireless unit, Smart Communications, Inc., are reinforcing efforts to protect critical telecommunications infrastructure nationwide. Collaborating with public and private partners, including local government units and communities, the companies aim to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and reliable service.

“Protecting our infrastructure is not just about safeguarding our business operations — it is about ensuring that our customers and communities can rely on uninterrupted connectivity and technology that are essential for our country’s development within a safe and secure cyber environment,” said Atty. Roy Ibay, VP and head of Regulatory at Smart and convenor of Protecta Pilipinas.

The alliance, launched alongside the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), involves stakeholders such as the Philippine Chamber of Telecommunication Operators, CitizenWatch Philippines, Infrawatch PH, and Meralco.

PLDT is also collaborating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to prevent accidental damage to fiber optic cables during roadworks. These measures include coordinated planning for excavation projects.

The PLDT Group is actively engaging communities and customers to report incidents such as cable theft and breakage. These efforts support the group’s larger mission to improve customer experience and contribute to national goals such as digital transformation and reducing the digital divide.
