PLDT Inc. has formally opened its newest data center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, a step toward the company’s goal of supporting artificial intelligence (AI) needs in the Philippines. The facility, called VITRO Sta. Rosa (VSR), was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

VSR, which began operations in 2024, is designed to handle AI workloads through Nvidia-powered GPU servers. The facility offers GPU as a Service (GPUaaS), which helps businesses use AI technology without the need for major upfront costs. This model is expected to benefit sectors such as banking, healthcare, logistics, and government.

“The launch of this landmark ICT infrastructure is also a testament to the people-centered future we are building — a Philippines where technology and human connection go hand in hand and exist seamlessly,” said Marcos.

Connection to international cable landing stations

Developed by VITRO Inc., the data center subsidiary of ePLDT, VSR is the 11th data center in PLDT’s portfolio. The five-hectare site has a power capacity of 50 megawatts (MW), making it the company’s biggest facility to date. For comparison, PLDT’s Makati 2 data center has a capacity of 12.3 MW, Clark has 4.5 MW, Parañaque has 2.6 MW, and Cebu 2 has 2.4 MW.

The facility connects to international cable landing stations and offers direct links to global destinations such as Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United States. It also features a 2N Fully Redundant Power Configuration and a carrier-neutral setup, allowing connections with multiple telecommunications providers.

“We intend to expand our data center capability to up to 500 MW. We have to be at least equal to the capacity of Malaysia,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chair of PLDT.

VSR is fully linked to PLDT’s fiber network and international cable systems such as Jupiter, Asia Direct Cable, and the upcoming Apricot. As global interest in AI continues to rise, the facility is positioned to support local technology growth and attract international investment.
