Integrated telecommunications company PLDT Inc. and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) partnered with the GSMA to support the Open Gateway initiative. It aims to establish a unified framework of common and standardized Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) across global mobile operator networks.
“Our goal is to help businesses and individuals locally and globally,” said Mitch Locsin, FVP and head of Enterprise and International Core Business at PLDT and Smart. “This collaboration aligns with our commitment to delivering impactful solutions, ensuring seamless communication, secure transactions, and efficient data management.”
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by PLDT, Smart, and GSMA underscores their commitment to enhancing compatibility and connectivity for enterprise developers worldwide. Through this collaboration, businesses and consumers are set to benefit from faster deployment of new services and a safer, more secure digital landscape. The partnership also promises an enriched 5G experience for all users.
“APIs will enable better customer experiences and drive digital transformation,” said Julian Gorman, head of GSMA Asia Pacific. “This new era of collaboration will help our industry move forward, and the Philippines is emerging as a significant player in telecom innovation.”
GSMA is a non-profit industry organization that represents the interests of mobile network operators worldwide.
With this MOU, Smart joins over 240 mobile network operators in leveraging GSMA Open Gateway’s collective expertise to swiftly deploy services using common APIs. At present, these operators are testing functionalities such as number verification and two-factor authentication, signaling a promising future for seamless and secure mobile operations.
